Living is easy.....

......with eyes closed

10/13/05 07:25 pm

Don’t actually have anything interesting to report!!! What’s today? Errr, Wednesday. Right. Well, I had an English lecture on Monday, and a Film viewing in the morning. 3 hours spent watching a crappy film called ‘The Sands of Iwo Jima’. It has John Wayne in it, and was absolutely pants. I kept falling asleep, but Jo would prod me a lot, to keep me awake. And then my stomach started rumbling really loudly, and Gazz, Jo and I were really laughing, and getting evil looks from everyone around us. Haha. Everyone seems so intelligent and eager to please. But the three of us don’t really care much anyway!

After the viewing, Gazz and I went to our TV seminar, and noone came! We didn’t know if we had the wrong room or something, because we sat together for about 5 minutes and then gave up. I think maybe we should have waited a little longer, but anyway. Erm, so we went back to the flat, and ate a lot of food. As per usual. Then Al and I went shopping, and spent £5 in Lidl! It was fantastic, we bought so much stuff, and it was so cheap. I then kind of ruined it, by going to Iceland and spending £15, which wasn’t quite so much of a bargain. But most of that was chicken and sauces. Oh, and a few frozen meals for me, because I’m sick of pasta now, and the thought of Chicken Stew with dumplings sounded so nice. (Shame it turned out to be literally a soup with dumplings really) Then I went to my English lecture, and I felt so small and lonely because I didn’t have Gazz with me, as he had a timetable clash and was with another lecture. I managed to find Jo though, and we sat together. And a girl called Laura sat with us too, but I think we scared her by laughing a lot. Oh, and another girl who has the weirdest name in the world. She’s Irish, and really cool, but her name is like Quierty or something!! Well, the English lecture was a little boring but I made a lot of notes, bcause I knew I’d have to give them to Gazz to copy up. And I learnt how to draw stars, as Jo keeps being mean and saying I can only do the star of David. But I can do stars like she does now. She’s so bossy sometimes!

Then I came home, and was watching Star Wars with Al in the kitchen, and I kept shouting ‘Beard!!!’ at the top of my voice whenever Ewan came on screen. He looks so lovely with his beard! I think Gazz and Tony think I’m some weird psychotic freak. When we played ‘Play Your Cards Right’ the other ay (we were drunk and bored, ok?!) I kept yelling ‘HIGHER OR LOWER THAN A 3?!’. And I scared them. I’ve also become very violent. It’s really bad! The boys keep doing things to deliberately annoy us, like call me ‘Kerswill’ or sing our names, or talk about the new member of our flat, Edward Arafat (who is a chair leg that Gazz broke off, and then stuck a tea towel over its ‘head’, and it’s apparently the dictator of our flat. I have ‘Property of Edward Arafat’ on my wrist, because they think its amusing. Boys will be boys!) So, I keep hitting them, and it’s become a real habit now. I’ll have to learn to adapt when I come home, because I started doing it at the weekend with my family! Grandad wasn’t paying any attention to what I was saying, so I backhanded him on the shoulder. I was mortified!

Anyway, we were watching Star Wars, and we noticed someone hanging out their window in another flat! Now, we were told you could only open the window a little bit, as it was locked at the bottom. But these people had their windows wide open! So me and Al tried in the kitchen, and the people were really laughing at us, and trying to mouth instructions. I tried my room, and Al’s. But eventually, the window in Gazz’s room worked. Bless him, he was trying to talk to his girlfriend on MSN, and we were running round his room! But I got it open, and then we all sat on the window sill, talking to the people in the other flat. Until we got worried and scared that we’d fall out the window and die, so we just leaned out lol. Everyone managed to open at leats one window in their flat, so there were loads of people talking. But then the guy above us, flung his fag butt out the window, and hit Al in the head! It was so rude! So we shouted, and everyone laughed and shouted as well. But then the porter/warden guy came, and he told everyone off, and said the wndows should always be kept closed or on a tilt. So that was the end of that fun thing.

But the people in the flat next door came round, and we all sat up talking for ages. And Em came up too, because she comes up at least once every day lol. Errr, so we didn’t go to bed till about 4ish. But I woke up at 2pm yesterday, so it didn’t matter. I showered, put on clean pyjamas and walked round the flat eating all day, and playing Snap with Gazz and Al. And I cooked a ‘Vegetable Hash’ which actually tasted very nice lol. I was amazed, because I cooked it from scratch! It was in one of my recipe books. Erm, and then Em came round last night, and we just talked for ages. The boys did a weird Edward Arafat puppet show, and we watched ‘Saw’ which is so horrible! I kept running out the room, and then coming back in. Oh, actually, we watched Saw at about 5pmish, before Em was there. We closed the curtains and turned off the lights, and Gazz, Tony and I watched it. It’s really really bad! Euuuuuuuuuuuu. Erm, and then I went to bed last night, at about 5ish. No alcohol has been consumed since Thursday! How good am I?! That’s almost a week! I think we are going out tonight though lol. Erm, so I went to bed and I was going to read some ‘Fight Club’ which I bought the other day, but there was a huge Daddy Long Legs in my room! So I tried for ages to catch it, and finally did, and threw it out my room and shut the door. But it flew in again! The door takes so bloody long to close lol. So I caught it again and ran down the corridor, realeased it and then ran all the way back. And it didn’t follow me. So I read some of my book and then went to sleep.

And then today, I woke up about 1pmish, which is good! Better than yesterday anyway lol. And I ate some chicken curry with Uncle Ben’s miscrowaveble rice, YUUUUUUUUMMMMMM. And then we just sat and talked for ages. In a bit, me and Gazz are going to go down to the shop and buy some Jenga and Twister. Because we need something more mentally challenging than Snap. We sometimes play poker, but I’m so good at it, that they don’t want to play it anymore lol. I think the original idea was that it would be strip poker, but then they realised how good I am, so gave up. Mwhahahahaha.

Errrr, so that’s about it. A quick sum up of the weekend I guess, is needed lol. Well, Mum, Dad, Leyna and Grandad picked me up on Friday aftrenoon, and we went to the camp, and sat in the entertainment, watching the crazy red coats dance. It was so funny lol. And on Saturday, we went to a village place in the morning, which has all pink/blue/yellow buildings, and was really sweet. And we saw someone getting married there. And we did a really long nature trail, but I managed to totally follow the map and we didn’t get lost (apart from once, for about a millisecond). And in the evening, we went to this place that had lots of cute shops, and I bought a strawberry candle, which I can’t actually burn here, but I will burn it at home! And we had dinner on a train, which was so delicious, and I’d forgotten what proper food tasted like. The whole weekend, I just ate and ate and ate lol. It was all free food to me! And then everyone came back to Aber, and I took them all round the silly excuse for a castle, and we went up a hill on a rickety train that felt like it was going to break at any moment lol. And then we ate in the carvery which is so nice as well. I love vegetables! I haven’t been eating good food, and it made me realise it lol. Oh ,and on Saturday night, I watched the X Factor, which is a totally normal thing to do, but I can’t do it here. The weekend went so fast, and was over way too quickly. Unless I get a train/coach home, I won’t seen anyone for another 2 months. That’s a hell of a long time. But I’ll be home before then! Goddammit, I will! You should have seen me cry on Sunday, haha. I tried hard not to, but I had a good old cry for a minute or two, before I did some more washing up lol. What a wuss I am turning out to be.

Ok, far too long. Goodbye!

Ok, so, if you got the email about this, well done! You can follow instructions. Haha. I decided that this was the easiest way to keep a log of everything that I'm doing at Uni, and I can keep in touch with people. If you don't have an LJ account, which you don't have to have to read this stuff, then you can just post replies or stuff under a Guest account or something. I never had one of these that people could see before lol. When I was younger, I used to keep a diary on here, as Mum kept reading my proper diary. Haha. But, hopefully, this will be okay! Not that anything terribly explicit is happening here or anything. Unlike Tessa's exploits. *winks*

The last posty thing I just did was the last email that I sent out, and i don't think I sent it right, but never mind. I got Tessa's reply, so I know it at least reached her lol. But, this is much easier. For me, anyway. If it doesn't work out, I'll return to classic old squirrel mail. :D

Well, I can't actually write much right now. I'm about to go eat some dinner. Frozen roast chicken with dumplings. Niiiiiiice. It sounds nice actually, so I'm gonna go. But I must remember to actually email everyone the address for this 'LJ' thing.

Okay

Bye!!

Noswaith dda mae fy ffrind o Lloegr! Sut wyt ti?! Rydw i yn siarad dipyn bach Saesneg! Mai hi'n chwarter wedi deg! Dim yn weddol...

Good evening to my friends in England! How are you?! I am speaking a little Welsh! It's quarter past 10! I am fairly well...

.....and then I ran out of Welsh.

That's all I know!! Apart from the obvious stuff, like Hello (Helo) and Good Morning (Bore da), Slow (Araf) and Welcome (Cymroeg) and random stuff like that. But I'm getting there! It's suprisingly easy to pick up, but it's a bitch to learn how to spell!! Good luck I have Liz's little Welsh book, which everyone is finding useful lol. Not that you really need to be able to speak much Welsh though, but it does go down well with the barmen and that. Especially my nice one from the Academy, who winks whenever he sees me. Haha.

I will be using this email address from now on, as I think everything's been a bit confused with all the yahooness and msnness. I've sent a lot of emails, which don't appear to have been received and apparently not received some that I should have! And also, I haven't been receiving text messages which have been sent too. I think that's just lies coz all you lazy buggers have forgotten me! :P

Well, I'm trying to think of things to say here lol. It's pretty much the same as what it was in my last email. The lectures are pretty boring, I have to struggle to keep my eyes open. Luckily, we have a system where Jo or Gazz prod me if I doze, and vice versa. It's the viewings that are the worst. Nice comfy chairs, with the lights out, watching a movie/tv programme, and sitting far enough back to not be noticed if I sleep. It's really hard to stay awake!! But I do try. I have missed a lecture and a seminar. The lecture was sort of on purpose, but don't tell my Mum lol. Making jelly was a higher priority than going. It was boring anyway, according to Jo. And the seminar was forgotten completely, and I felt terrible afterwards lol. You can miss 2 seminars, and then they start chasing you up. But you can miss as many lectures as you want, and noone will notice. I'm such a procrastinator, and I have real trouble trying to force myself to go. It's only the thought that I've paid £1000 (or near that amount) for these bloody lectures that entices me to go. Plus, I get to see Jo, so that's cool lol.

Tony is pisisng the hell out of me. He plays his guitars day and night, and sings too. Out of tune. He can only play Green Day and the Beatles and Oasis. Arrrrrrgh. He's so sarcastic and bitchy, and negative and pervy. He pats my arm or leg all the time, and whinges about how girls never find him sexy. If he cut his hair, shaved off his beard and lost some weight, and was more cheerful, and less annoying, he'd be almost eligible. Almost, I say. Argh. Bloody guy. He thinks he has a chance with Em and Me. I keep rescuing her from him, because he scares me. Me and Em get drunk a lot together, and I hate leaving her in his company because I think he will take advantage. A horrible thing to say, but it's true. I left my flat unlocked the other day, when Gazz and I went to a lecture. And I kept worrying that he was going through my stuff. Gazz agreed and said he was a perv as well, and he definitly thought that I fancied him. Grrr. But I sent Gazz on a mission to turn him off both me and Em. Stupid men. Gazz is sweet though. But men in general should just lay down and die. (Apart from Gazz, Stuart, Bruce Willis and Dominic Monaghan)

Spent the weekend with Mum, Dad, Leyna and Grandad, who came up on a Sun holiday. They picked me up on Friday night, and I spent until 6pm today with them. It was really, really good. It was a shame though, that it only just really hit me that I was with them this morning. Me and Mum had a 'moment' lol, where I cried a bit because I couldn't help it lol. I spent most of today trying not to cry, at stupid little things like Dad threw a rock and said 'Be free rock!' and Leyna fought with me as to who was going to shower first, as we both wanted an extra 5 mins in bed. I just welled up lol, and had to blink allot. We spent Saturday in a cute little shopping place, and I bought a strawberry candle that I can't light here, so I'll have to wait till I get home. I ate A LOT. All weekend, I just ate all the time lol. Free Food!! And today, I got to show them all round Aber, and we went up a huge hill, and looked in a Camera Obscura (whatever that is, I know they are in Girl with a Pearl Earring lol). It was cool. Actually, it was pretty naff, but I was with them, so I didn't really care lol. Oh, and we spent Friday night watching the entertainment in the holiday club, with strange people dancing. It was so fun. I hate the thought of them going to holidays like that without me.

So, Uni has made me emotional. Before, I cried at films and stuff lol, but now I cry at everything lol. Don't get me wrong, I am having a good time. But I'd rather be at home. I miss everyone so much and it's horrible to think I won't see anyone for another 5 weeks. That's so long. I'm gonna try to convince Rob to take me home in November. Or I'll just get a train home lol. I do have a student railcard after all. I cried when they left today, when Mum cried lol. And my Dad had tears in his eyes lol. It was horrible. I called Laura, but she wasn't in. Having fun without me! And I called my Mum again, and told her I was okay lol. And then the Cornishes, who I haven't spoken to for a whole fortnight lol. It was great to just talk to people I knew lol. Everyone in my flat was jealous, coz I said goodbye to Robyn, and then said Hello to Claire. And then goodbye to Claire and hello to Chris. They were like, how many people are you gonna talk to??!!

I'm trying to write postcards and letters lol. I bought a sheep badge today, which I will send to someone and I'll buy sheep related presents to everyone, and send them home in letters. As soon as I get some envelopes. I have lots of photos of sheep, so I'll post them too lol.

I'm going to take Claire's advice, and watch Armageddon now, and cry lol. I've tried so hard not to cry over the weekend, and watching Bruce Willis die will be a good excuse lol. :D Goodbye! I miss you all! Hope I'll see you in about 2/3 weeks! I'm gonna try my hardest to get Rob to take me home lol, or I'll get the train!! All 8 hours or so of it!!

Final piece of Welsh!................... Hwyl fawr! (Goodbye, have fun!)

10/3/05 07:16 pm - Day 3! (I think)

Today was a lot of talking and paperwork. Although last night was a lot of fun, it wasn’t perhaps the best thing to do when we had talks starting at 9.30 this morning. I woke up about 7.45ish, but then fell asleep again. I may be in a different bed, in a different room, in a different country, but some things never change. I managed to wake up at 8 though, as Tony’s alarm is loud enough to wake the whole town up. I then decided to be brave and tackle the shower. It was a sort of boiling hot trickle of water. Not quite a shower, but it was still water. So I had a very long shower, as it takes a lot of effort to wash hair in that amount of water. But I emerged triumphant, and I felt fresh and clean, and was happy that everyone else looked a bit grotty. I don’t know if its been fixed yet, I’ll check in the morning. If not, it will just be another trickle of water.
So, after all that, we were just about able to trudge all the way up the godforsaken hill, which is so big and long, and steep, and seems even worse at 8.30 in the morning. We managed to get to the Uni at about 9.15ish, but then sort of got lost as to where we were supposed to do our talk. Gazz, Tony and I wandered around for a while, before finally getting to the building. But the guy said we were 2 minutes late, so we had to wait for the next speech to begin. Don’t know why we bothered really. The guy was sweet (apparently he’s the big scary Dean person) but it was all a load of stuff we’ve heard a million times before. And definitely not worth waking up at 8am for anyway.
Then we went to the library, to get our cards, and queued for ages. There were loads of strange people wandering around, wearing animal masks. One bloodhound in lederhosen was particularly freaky. And then we were attacked by a great pig in a pink dress. Apparently they were recruiting for the free thinkers society. Which doesn’t really say a lot for the people who joined. Maybe that’s what happens to people who stay in Wales too long. Well, after that long wait, it turns out I never handed n the form for a library card, which I will have to do tomorrow, and I already filled the form out just now. Which means I need more photos. There’s a booth on campus though, so its not exactly a trek. Well, its up a bloody huge hill anyway.
Then we registered on the internet thing, which doesn’t actually appear to be working yet. Ill check with Gazz in the morning, as he’s a bit of a whiz kid and knows about these sort of things. Can’t wait to get MSN!
Erm, then I went to an English talk, and luckily sat with a girl, georgie, who I spoke to in the queue for the library card, so I knew someone at least. But, embarrassingly, my phone went off in the talk. It was just vibrating, and I thought it was in my pocket, so I figured it wasn’t mine. But then it started playing the na na na nah song, which was so humiliating, and I had to pick it up and turn it off. But the talk was really informative, and definitely worth going to. We got into our study group things, and there are only 5 in a group, and I’m with georgie ! There was also a girl called Jo as well, and I forget the other girls name! The fifth didn’t turn up. Our teacher is Elisabeth something. She’s teaching English, and she cant even spell her own name. An s! bless her, she’s new and quite sweet. Just a bit dippy. Jo is doing English and film/TV studies too, so we were being really nice to each other lol. Good to find someone I can follow around to lectures. We are doing the exact same things..
Just wandered around for a while then. Everyone was in talks and stuff. So I walked up the hill a bit, until I ‘left’ Aber, and then walked down into town, to buy a Subway. Very nice. But just a long way back up. I was sweating like a pig. And spoke to Mum on the phone, which was weird but good lol. Strange thinking I’m so far away. Makes me want to throw up, to be honest. But that’ll get better I guess. Hopefully!
Then I went to the TV/film lecture talk thing, and sat with Jo. She’s so me! Talking to her, is just like talking to a twin. Its so odd. We like exactly the same music, we both love films, we both love the OC, Buffy, Friends, Lost, 10 things I hate about you, Jeremy Irons, Aladdin etc etc. she wears baggy jeans and converse, but accessorises well, which ill have to learn to do. And she has really long brown hair. And she has bracelets. And we are doing the same course. Its just weird. But very very cool. We sat through the film talk. Which was uneventful, except for the lecturers phone going off. It was a cockerel crowing. And he said ‘ignore the sounds you can hear, its just my cock crowing, ill talk louder to distract you’. bless him. Least its not just me who leaves their phone on!
And then I couldn’t be arsed to go back down the hill, as there was an English socialising thing at 6. So I went to Jo’s, which is a huge, huge house with a bath and a shower! Its huge! The girls in her flat are boring though, but threes a cool bloke who looks like Anthony from BB. She cooked us pasta with pesto sauce and grate cheese. It was fantastic. So we talked for ages, and she’s going to let me buy some ipod speakers from her, as Amazon sent her 6 instead of 1 lol. don’t know why.
Then we went to the English place, and had a few free glasses of wine, and socialised a bit lol. Weird drinking with brand new lecturers. But then we had another film/TV talk we didn’t know about. And we had a few glasses, so were a bit giggly. Jo wrote notes, and they were just of a pigeons bum, as the guy said something about pigeon holes. But we were well behaved, and only laughed when the guy (from earlier) said a very rude, suggestive comment about tissues, which made him go red and earned a round of applause. Then we went to the film party, but realised we were in the history one, so we finished our glass and slipped out. The TV one was boring, and you had to pay for the drinks! So went to union bar and spent the next 90 mins talking about films with a girl called Hannah. I met her last night, when we spoke about the sheep. Then she went, and 2 guys joined us. One was called Sebastian, and from Tunbridge wells. Bless him! We excused ourselves, and went to eat some union curly fries. £1, big pot, very nice. Then we went and watched blade in the union bar, which was free. And pretty good. Then I got a taxi home. Only £2.60!!!! No-one actually noticed me come home. They could all be out, for all I know. There’s just sheep everywhere. But I should go as its 1.45am, and I got more lectures in the morning, and I have to officially register.
Another day, seems both long and short. Ill be fit by the end, from all the walking, and I’m really glad to have met Jo, we get on so well. She could be my new best friend lol. But I cant wait another 2 weeks to see everyone again.

10/2/05 11:14 am - 2nd Day!

Ok, so this is the second day now. Its about 2am, so maybe its actually my third. Its been strange. It started out great, I didn’t feel weird at all. In fact, it just felt like a strange holiday, and I was with a bunch of people in a hotel or something, but then my family went home. I was fine until then! But then, the tears came and I was so close to giving up. Complete despair. If I had the choice, I would have left right then. But there was a sense of shame that I’d given up so easily, so I just did some washing up and cried a little. Al and Gazz saw me all teary, but we started planning tommorows events, and I took my mind off it. Its just all so weird. It will take me a while to get used to it I guess. They all seem like decent people. Gazz sort of reminds me of Stuart, but only sort of. Maybe Im just trying to find something familiar lol. Al is okay, she’s a little quiet and reclusive, but I think shes probably going to be okay once we get to know each other little better. Jo is cool, she seems very with it, and as if she was really popular before, but she’s just in the same boat as the rest of us. The new guy, Tony, is also okay. He’s pretty cool and I feel like a bit of an idiot when the two guys start talking about music. I thought I was cool, but im really not! Im going to try though. Gazz seemed impressed that I knew who most of his Cds were by. Especially Perfect Circle, who did the fantastic ‘The Hollow’ song, which I’m proud to say is on my iPod. We went out with a girl from the bottom floor flat, to a pub that’s a converted church. You get a free inflatable sheep if you buy 4 after shocks. All five of us got one, and we got one for Alison too. Cost a lot of money, but it was a right laugh. And people kept talking to us. Note to self, inflatable sheep are a great conversation starter.
Beginning to really miss home. Its best not to think about it. Like, what everyone is doing. Probably sleeping right now, like I should be. I have a talk to go to at 9.30. Takes half hour to walk up the hill, and we don’t have a shower that works. I’ll have to get up about 7.45ish. So I should go to sleep now. One last thought, the bar man in the pub was really very nice. I could date him, an there was some definite flirt age on his part. But it’s a little early to crush on someone already. Emily and Tony seemed to get on well though. Cough cough.

Better go, laptop battery is low as well. Plus, I’m bloody knackered. Too much dancing with sheep in nightclubs lol.

Ps. Everyone has different accents! Its so funny. I will have to look up where everyone is from though, Im hopeless at geography, and I just nod when I ask and they tell me. But the accents!!

9/18/05 08:35 pm - First Ever Post

Hello!

Ummmm.... *runs out of things to say*

This was only so I could write stuff about Uni in, and because I haven't actually started yet, I don't actually have anything to write. I move into my room on Saturday!! I don't know how long it will take for me to get an internet connection though, I think it takes a few days. But, I'll be in sunny old Wales, with no internet and no friends. Haha. How fun.

Ok, going now, because I'm rambling about nothing.
